What garage door weatherstripping costs

Of the 45 invoiced jobs listed on this site, seven included new seals on a door already in place. Five included a new bottom seal and three included work on the side or top seals; two jobs did both. One did not record which seal. Another two were new-door installs, which came with new seals; they are listed separately below and left out of those counts.

Four of the seven were in Chelmsford, North Chelmsford included. How to tell which seal a door needs, and when a gap at the floor is the track instead, is further down this page.

How seals work

Which seal, and when it is not the seal

Bottom seal, or side and top seals

The bottom seal is a rubber strip along the bottom edge of the door that meets the floor when the door closes. The line in our price book reads: "Bottom rubber weather seal cut to door width, with retainer if needed."

The side and top seals are a separate part, fixed to the frame around the opening, that the closed door presses against. The price book line: "Vinyl perimeter stop seal for both sides and top."

Seal or track?

The bottom seal is not the only part at floor level: each vertical track ends there too. On two of the seven seal repairs in our records, bottom track sections were replaced on the same visit: North Chelmsford, July 2026 and Chelmsford, July 2026.

If the door rubs, jerks or stops partway, look at the track before the seal: see track repair. If it hangs crooked or one side opens faster, it is usually a cable or spring: see cable repair.

Do not turn up the opener to close a gap

Do not raise the opener's close force, or set its down travel lower, to press the door harder onto a worn seal. Replace the seal instead.

Federal rules require every opener manual to say that the door must reverse when it touches a 2x4 laid flat on the floor, that the opener must be tested again after any change to the force or the limit of travel, and that failure to adjust the opener properly may cause severe injury or death. If the settings have been changed, run that test before using the door again.

Force and travel adjustment is part of opener repair.

What you notice

Seal, track or opener

Daylight, water or leaves under the closed door
Usually a worn or torn bottom seal. A new one is cut to the width of the door.
A draft or light down the sides or across the top
Usually worn or torn side or top seals. A damaged length can be replaced without the rest, as on the job in Cambridge, July 2026.
The door reverses or will not close all the way
Look for anything in the doorway or in front of the photo eyes at the bottom of the tracks, without reaching into moving parts. If that is not it, see opener repair, and do not turn up the force to make it close (why).

"I highly recommend Eric, we had him fix our garage door few months ago, recently we were having some issues with it. I called Eric on the weekend and he immediately answered the phone, and came within an hour to our place to fix it. I was extremely impressed about how responsive and thorough professional Eric is."
Basharat Sheikh Google Review · Aug 2025
"Eric was able to help me out on a super cold Monday holiday recently. He was able to diagnose my issue and get my garage door working again. Price was fair and he was very good at providing some insight into things to keep an eye on moving forward. I'll definitely keep him on speed dial for whatever I run into next."
Bob North Attleborough, MA · Jan 2025
"Our technician Eric came on time gave a more fair price then we were previously quoted from another company and did the job quickly and thoroughly and now our door is working better then ever (even got rid of that annoying clicking noise we used to have)."
